Come on sing with me…isn’t it just lovely these short weeks?

“You got my attention at hello, We had this connection that wouldn’t let go

There was something sexy ‘bout your voice, Anything you say makes a beautiful noise

A lot of girls are sexy, But you know how to use it, You can keep me up on the phone all night, We say lets hang up on 3 but we don’t ever do it, Aint it crazy how after all this time, We got that you hang up no you hang up kinda love, We got that you hang up no you hang up kinda love…” Shayne Ward

I so hope you all have that song ringing through your heads for the rest of the week!! Top of the morning to you sports fans. Definitely one of the silly ones who didn’t take these 2 days off and here I sit in a quiet office with no clients available neither oh well…It’s actually funny how when Friday the 2nd was announced as a public holiday, there was a big uproar about how the economy cant handle it etc. I’d bet my last R20 that these same people who were up in arms are the same people that took Tuesday and Wednesday off and shot off to the coast…oh this world we live in.

A few additions to this mailing list, Miss Mel and Mr Justin, very warm welcome to our almost weekly e-community, I hope you find value in this, should you want to read any of the older emails or have any comments on how to make this a better blog, kindly do visit www.mondaymail.blogspot.com.

I feel like such a kid again, everything is ok, even though it really isn’t, I have that Hakuna Matata sort of thing going on. You know that excited, apprehensive, butterflies sort of gig, yip I think I figured it out…J watch this space, I am not saying that to get you all nosy etc. I just felt I should tell you but I also don’t want to jinx it either. Moving swiftly along.

It’s so insane the kinds of deep conversations we can have over a beer. Yesterday we (Thabang and Justin) just joined us and already making a contribution to our community J. Were chatting about western influence on Africa, but I guess any developing third world country to be honest. I had a chat with my pops about it last year sometime when we were playing tennis. My pops other than being pretty wise is an economist as well. So anyway he mentioned something during our conversation that stuck in my head. Before Western influence, there was a man who had his cows, goats, little vegetable patch, his hut, wife, kids, neighbours, villagers…the world was alright with him. He needs water he sends the young one to the river to fetch water, they boil it, eat. He is hungry, he catches a chicken or goes out and hunts wild beast. The world is alright with him. His existence is humble and his worries just as humble…the basics…survival. Food is natural, obesity, carcinogenics not their issue. Is this the old adage…ignorance is bliss?

If he knew he could have running water to his house via pipes and this thing called a tap, would he prefer to stroll to the river? If he knew he could pick up something called a cell phone and call his neighbour who lives about 10kms away would he rather opt to stroll there or take his horse? If he knew he could get meat at the butchery would he prefer to hunt all day for his food?

I know I am oversimplifying it all. And at the risk of sounding arrogant or self important, I ask these questions from an educated point of view…western education and influence I might add, but taking that into account I definitely know which option I’d select.

But once again with simplicity comes complications. We now have cars, resources, cellphones, fast food, with it comes hijackings, corruption, power hunger, murders and poisoning via additives that make food grow faster and fatter… We live in a world where we don’t talk to people any more but send sms’ we get home from work at 7pm, 8pm sometimes even later. We leave home at 5 am cos of traffic. Who brings up our children? We have huge walls around our houses because we making so much loot we are scared the bad guys are going to come and get us. Morals, commitment, your word, keeping to time, doing what you say you are going to do when you said you would…what is that? Everyone is out for numero uno, it’s a dog eat dog world. I, I, I, I, I, that’s what we are about now

The world has moved on, just like the caveman evolved, Spartans (I think they really existed) and Romans, Barbarians in general went about maiming and conquering the world a couple of thousand years ago, wielding swords. Just as the Irish were invaded by the English, killing a third of the population, causing a further third to flee and settle in the states. Just as the Native Indians of America are no longer, just as the western world has nearly forced into extinction the very fauna and flora they preach we should try and save right now, mind you a lot of the killings of late have been at the hands of the natives both in Africa and in Asia.

The world has moved on, for better or for worse? I guess it’s to each person to decide for him or herself. It brings me back to the article written by David Bullard formerly of the Sunday Times. An article that caused a huge uproar in these parts. The article is very distastefully and insensitively written. BUT…take the emotion out of it, is there any fault in the content?

Here is a link to the article http://www.thetimes.co.za/Columnists/Article.aspx?id=741855

And that’s where I will leave this weeks email, hope you are all well and if you are traveling please do so safely. Happy Pesach to my Jewish friends hope it was a good week.

Oh dear…

Absolutely nothing to write this week, well I do but its more of the same you know, I had a discussion with some mates earlier this week about people moaning and being negative about this country and continent the bottom line with this conversation and many others is dude, lass, the options are simple either shut the trap up and do something about it or remove yourself from this situation that is causing your mind such grief…but lets not dwell on this.

A couple of new additions to the mailing list…Adrian Ashton and Jason Goldberg, welcome to our little community, normally have more to say than this but alas we all have our off days J for any of the older ones or to post a comment please go to www.mondaymail.blogspot.com

Oh yes and I just thought I’d share something with you all, remember that feeling I had, u know that anxious kinda excited, kinda apprehensive kinda butterflies feeling…its still there! Just thought I’d share that with u ;-)

Yesterday I was at gym and I was listening to this song if you have heard it before you may have the same reaction as I did, I felt like I could fitness fly (that skiing machine) forever. Its such an upbeat song with some good words. I must have repeated it 3 times at least. It’s a song by Twista and Faith Evans called Hopeful (got it from http://letras.terra.com.br/evans-faith/197103/)

I wish the way I was livin' could stop
Servin' rocks, knowin' the cops is hot when I'm on the block
And I - wish my brother would've made bail
So I won't have to travel six hours to see him in jail
And I - wish that my grandmother wasn't sick
Or that we would just come up on some stacks and hit a lick (I wish)
And I - wish my homies wouldn't have to suffer
When the streets get the upper hand understand we lose a brother
And I - wish I could go deep in the zone
And lift the spirits of the world with words within this song (I wish)
And I - wish I could teach us all to fly
Take away the pain out your hands and help you hold 'em high
And I - wish God had never gave the men power
To be able to hurt the people inside the Twin Towers (I wish)
And I - wish God would've turned they hearts righteous
When they started to take innocent lives and become snipers
But uh - we will never break though they devastate
We shall motivate, and we gotta pray, all we got is faith
Instead of thinkin' about who gon' die today
The Lord is gon' help you feel better so you ain't gotta cry today
Sit at the light so long
And then we gotta move straight forward cause we bite so strong
So when right go wrong
Just say a lil' prayer, get your money man, life goes on... (Let's go)

Chorus:

Cause I'm hopeful, yes I am, hopeful for today
Take this music and use it, let it take you away
And be hopeful, hopeful, and He'll make a way
I know it ain't easy but - that's okay
Just be hopeful

Verse 2:

I wish that you would show some love
Instead of hatin' so much when you see some other people comin' up (I wish)
I wish I could teach the world to sing
Write some music and have them trippin' off the joy I bring
Sh it - I wish that we can hold hands
Listenin' instead of dissin', lessons from a grown man (I wish)
And I - wish the families that lack but got love
Get some stacks, brand new shack, and a 'Llac that's on dubs
And I - wish we could keep achieving wonders
See the vision of the world through the eyes of Stevie Wonder (I wish)
You feel me - and I hope all the kids eat
And don't nobody in my family see six feet - ya dig?
I hope the mothers stand strong
You can make it whether you with him or your man's gone (I wish)
And I - wish I could give every celly some commissary
And no popo bring the heat on our peace like they did R. Kelly
And I - wish that D.O.C. could scream again
And bullets could reverse and Pac and Biggie breathe again
Sh it - and one day they can speak again
I wish that we only saw good news every time we look at CNN
I wish that enemies could talk
And that Super-homie Christopher Reeve could still walk (I wish)
I wish that we could walk the path stay doin' the right thing
Hustle hard so them kids maintain up in the game (Let's go)

Chorus:

Cause I'm hopeful, yes I am, hopeful for today
Take this music and use it, let it take you away
And be hopeful, hopeful, and He'll make a way
I know it ain't easy but - that's okay
Just be hopeful

Verse 3:

Wish the earth wasn't so apocaliptic
I try to spread my message to the world the best way that I can give it
We can make it, always so optimistic
If you don't listen, gotta live my life the best way that I can live it
I pray for justice when we go to court
Wish it was all good so the country wouldn't have to go to war
Why can't we kick it and just 'em on
And in the famous words of Mister King, 'why can't we all just get along?'
Hope we can find a better way to shop in peace
And I - hope we find a better way to cop for keys
And I - wish everybody would just stop and freeze
And ask - why are fulfilling these downfalls and these prophecies
You can be wrong if it's you doubtin'
With the faith of a mustard seed, you can move mountains
And only the heavenly father can ease the hurt
Just let it go and keep prayin' on your knees in church (Let's go)

Chorus:

Cause I'm hopeful, yes I am, hopeful for today
Take this music and use it, let it take you away
And be hopeful, hopeful, and He'll make a way
I know it ain't easy but - that's okay
Just be hopeful

Oh happy day (oh happy day), I'm talking about the happy days (oh happy day), C'mon and talk about the happy days (oh happy day), Oh, oh, oh happy days (oh happy day), Ooh talking about happy day (oh happy day) – Sister act

Top of the morning for you I’m sure but its bottom of the evening for me . Another week of not too much to write but just to share some thoughts with you and I promise you I am not gonna make this an evangelical blog 

I just have 2 things I want to share with you. You really don’t have to go through life on your own, it’s the reason why you have your friends and your creator, maybe it’s just me but the load feels so much lighter and the joy so much more pleasurable when you share it with someone.

Secondly in this life, things will happen, but not necessarily as or how you had planned them to but they will happen. The sooner we all accept or at least start entertaining the thought that not everything will go as we planned them to, the easier the journey will be. TRUST ME!

Another one just popped into my head as I was typing the first two and this is for all those who pray, I believe that all prayers are answered, they may not necessarily be what we wanted the result of the prayer to be, but they do get answered and we overlook them and think that you have been forsaken! FOCUS.

Anyway how is this for a mad ripper, so last week if you read my email I said I had this feeling something big was about to happen and I wasn’t sure what…well anyway on Friday I decided to step out of my self imposed social exile and go hit the town a little. I was worried that I had lost the little game that I had…nah not quite… yesterday I got a call from a client I had pitched to a few weeks ago, she has been quite a difficult one to follow up on cos she doesn’t return calls etc. Bear in mind I am a guy who has gone 3 months of this calendar year without signing any deals even though I have been running around like a blue ar sed fly trying to meet people so I can just get one under the belt, at this stage anything would do. Anyways so I get this call, out of the blue, she says we are happy with what you are proposing and we want to go ahead with a test campaign. She said she would sign the order last night and send it to me. She didn’t send it. I honestly hardly slept last night…but at 16h41 today I received one of the best emails I had in a while, I smiled, a tear started developing in my eye. I remembered why I am the damn man …I looked up at the sky (roof) and smiled…still smiling. The test campaign, my dear friends, is a few clicks short of what I did the WHOLE of our last financial year which was 14 mths. Biggest campaign we have ever run in this organization…

I know I need not say this, but I will anyway, because unlike politicians I’d prefer not to be misunderstood/misrepresented…longwinded but anyway as I was trying to say, I write this not to boast, but rather to illustrate that all in this life has its own time and place. Just like Zim will one day be given the opportunity to find its former glory, the fighting in Iraq will cease, discrimination based on race will end (we’ll find something else to use) Palestine will be at peace…ok sorry I took it too far, but I hope u get my drift.

Before I sign off, I just thought I should just mention this joker friend I have. On Monday I had the honour and privilege of being invited to a Johnie Walker striding man event where tribute was being paid to 9 South Africans who are trying to make a difference to those less fortunate than us. These 9 were selected from dozens. One such finalist was Thabang Skwambane. He is just an ordinary guy, and you guys have no idea how ordinary he really is , but he is making a difference, just like any of us can. I salute you boss, keep on keeping on bro and see it through to the end! For those of us in SA, I just received an email earlier about a million man march that’s being held on 24th April 2008, stop moaning and do something!!

On that note I sign off, wishing you all a week of discovery.
